A child is dead and several people are displaced after a large fire in south troy that spread through four buildings.

The call came in shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday.

The fire tore through four buildings on 4th Street before being put out.

The Red Cross says they're aiding 20 other people who were affected; nine of them are children, ages 1 to 9.

Troy Fire Chief Eric McMahon says the fire was able to spread quickly because the buildings were so close together.

McMahon says one person other than the child was taken to the hospital with injuries, and no firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
