At least two members of the New York State Assembly have tested positive for COVID-19 following Wednesday's extraordinary session at the state Capitol.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said in a statement Friday that he was informed Democrats Charles Fall and Inez Dickens tested positive and are currently quarantining. Both members are vaccinated.

"I send Charles and Inez well wishes, and hope that have a full and speedy recovery. This is a terrible reminder that we are not yet out of the woods of this pandemic," Heastie said. "I encourage everyone to stay vigilant and careful to protect yourself and those around you."

Heastie said his office is in the process of reaching out to staff and other members that may have been in close contact with Fall and Dickens. Sources told Capital Tonight the news spread quickly among the Democratic conference.

"The extraordinary session may have turned into an extraordinary superspreader event," one source, who was at Wednesday's session and is waiting on his own test results, said.

So far, no state Senate cases have been reported since the session.
