AARP New York and a coalition of other groups are calling attention to major disparities between the economic status and overall health of white New Yorkers over 50 and minorities in the same age group. Their recent reports shows that the gap does not begin at the age but is the result of things like a lack of health insurance, not having a job that provides a retirement plan, or the financial burden of caring for a relative. And the challenges faced by older New Yorkers of color makes it hard for them to provide support for the next generation. So AARP hosted a forum on disrupting disparities. Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and Beth Finkel, the New York State Director of AARP, joins us to discuss.
