The Junior League of Syracuse continues its mission of helping women and children by completing the second of 11 community-based projects.

It's all in honor of the league's 100th birthday. The group partnered with Vera House to create welcome home baskets for people leaving the shelter to live independently. Vera House supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

"Often when someone comes into the shelter, they don't bring all of the contents of their home with them. They bring their clothes and maybe some toiletries and a couple of personal items. So when they're leaving the shelter, they're often starting a new apartment a new home and they need all the things to start a new home," said Cindy Britz, development director at Vera House.

The Junior League filled 50 baskets for survivors. The League will complete nine more projects, eight projects with organizations they've previously partnered with, and one new partnership.
