The Onondaga County Justice Center has been named one of the worst jails in New York.

The State's Commission of Correction issued the report, naming five state jails.

Overcrowding, understaffing, and destroying the property of inmates are just a few of the problems listed for the Justice Center.

In 2016, a class-action lawsuit was brought against the facility by civil rights groups alleging juvenile inmates were being held in solitary confinement for extended periods of time.

That was settled in June.

The Sheriff's office is in the process of reviewing the report.

Riker's Island, Green County Jail in Catskill, Erie County Holding Center and Corrections and the Dutchess County Jail in Poughkeepsie were the other jails named.

“The state will demand focus on these facilities as well as a resolution to these systemic, unconscionable and illegal conditions,” said Chief Counsel to the Governor Alphonso David.
