SYRACUSE, N.Y. --The New York State Fair may be more than four months away, but the grounds have been bustling with activity.

Crews are about halfway through their work on a $60 million Expo Center which will host multiple events.

The 110,000 square foot facility will feature about 4,000 retractable seats.

Fair officials said the center will accomodate events throughout the year which will add to the new and improved look of the fairgrounds.

"Not only are we building for the fair but we're building for the non-fair. You know that other 50 weeks a year when people wonder what we do, and to bring in more high end shows, horse shows, more trade shows, more consumer shows, that sort of thing," said NYS Fair Acting Director Troy Waffner.

Meanwhile, crews are also improving the Orange parking lot by adding about 2,500 more spaces and blacktop.

Both projects are expected to be complete by the start of this year's fair August 22.
