Could it be the county of counties in Upstate New York? Visit Syracuse seems to think so.

The organization has been tracking a spike in tourism in Onondaga County. Representatives say the increase is largely due to big events and conventions such as the bowling convention.

Thousands upon thousands have been flocking to the area and not just to visit, but to stay. Hotel occupancy has seen the most significant growth. Visit Syracuse estimates about a $15 million economic impact from hotels already booked for the year.

"The competitive set I consider to be Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and the Hudson Valley, so we have been at the bottom of the pack for some time and this has taken us from worst to first. We're very excited," said Danny Liedka, Visit Syracuse president and CEO.

Visit Syracuse says the county is lacking in tourism technology, however there will be an app soon to help visitors learn what the area has to offer.
