A Syracuse tech company is in the running to win the Genius New York 3.0 contest.

It's a competition that focuses on innovations in drone technology. The grand prize is $1 million in funding.

The Syracuse company, ResilienX, is focused on improving safety in the Unmanned aerial system's traffic management ecosystem. Other businesses in the contest are from Buffalo, Brooklyn, Italy, and Israel.

The program director says the competition is putting the region on the map.

“Not only do I believe Syracuse and central New York can become the hotbed for commercial drone technologies, I think it already has become one,” said Genius New York Director Jon Parry. “We are more competitive than some of the major investment and technology regions."

The contest is hosted by CenterState CEO's Tech Garden. The winner will be announced in April.
