Another group has filed legal documentation in support of the state’s Green Light law.

The New York Civil Liberties Union has filed a brief supporting the law as part of an ongoing lawsuit.

The Green Light law will allow undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses.

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns originally filed a lawsuit saying the law violates federal statutes.

Some county clerks say they will not honor and enforce the law.

The New York Immigration Coalition said those clerks are violating the Constitution.

The New York Civil Liberties Union is now echoing that message.

Last week, a coalition of immigrant organizations and a few individuals also filed motions to intervene as a defendant in the lawsuit, arguing that they are “intimately familiar” with the need to protect undocumented immigrants and how the law will impact them.

The controversial law is scheduled to take effect in December.

A hearing on Kearns' lawsuit is scheduled for later this month.
