The state's plastic bag ban is in effect, and one school is taking their efforts to clean the planet to another level.

SUNY ESF is pledging to be plastic-free by 2025; it's the fourth campus nationwide to do this.

It'll do that by maintaining a zero-waste task force. The college will also eliminate all non-essential, non-compostable single-use disposable plastics when there's an alternative available, and establish a new purchasing policy to support the effort.

ESF has already implemented a campus-wide composting and recycling program. The bins can be found on every floor of each building.

Office trash bins have been replaced with liner-less mini bins, and office trash pick-up schedules have been altered.

It's grown from 64 gallons of composted materials each week to 1,600 gallons weekly as of January.
