The Onondaga County Board of Elections is expected to announce the winners to some undecided races this week. There was a delay in counting due to several employees contracting COVID-19.

Ballots are being counted once again, but as a precaution, now only two observers are at each table instead of four.

Democratic Commissioner Dustin Czarny says counting is moving along much faster with fewer observers. He says that 5,000 ballots were counted in the first three hours Monday.

“I’m really happy that we’re back at this. I couldn’t sleep at all last night because I just wanted to get back at this because we want this election in the bag so we can be done and start working for next year, because the work starts again right away," said Czarny.

Czarny anticipates that the count will be finished by this Wednesday and certified by next Monday.

Democratic candidate John Mannion has already been announced as the winner for the 50th Senate District, flipping a Central New York seat long held by Republicans.
