The holiday season is here and with all those fun family gatherings and meals comes a lot of unhealthy habits.

A dietitian from Mohawk Valley Nutrition Service says that this time of year, a lot of people love to splurge on their favorites meals and sweets.

She also says people tend to break their usual routines, which could see them skip a meal, including breakfast. That meal is actually the most important one of the day.

"Don't skip that breakfast! Whether it's a protein shake or greek yogurt, cottage cheese. You don't need to take out pots and pans to have that meal. If you do that, you will eat better at the holiday meal and the days around it," said Priya Mathew, Mohawk Valley Nutrition Services registered dietitian.

Ironically, the least busy time of year for dietitians? December through February.
