Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said he has "no interest" in serving in a potential Joe Biden administration as attorney general.

Cuomo, interviewed on NBC's "Today" show earlier in the morning, insisted he wanted to remain in New York. He was responding to an Axios report published Sunday evening that reported Cuomo is being eyed as a potential attorney general if Biden, a Democrat, wins the presidency.

"I'm a New Yorker; I said I would serve as governor," Cuomo said, adding with a smile, "Those rumors, those are only from people who want to get me out of New York. I don't know why, but that's where that is coming from."

Cuomo over the years has sought to temper any expectation he is interested in national office. He has shot down suggestions of joining a national ticket or a presidential cabinet, essentially giving a variation of "been there, done that" when asked.

The governor was an early booster of Biden's presidential bid, and the two men have been close.

Cuomo served as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the Clinton administration.

A Democrat now in his third term, Cuomo is the longest serving governor in the nation and has been fundraising ahead of an expected re-election campaign for a fourth term bid in 2022.
