New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is standing by Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin and said he will remain on the November general election ticket after it was revealed his failed campaign for New York City comptroller has been under investigation.

"I have the utmost confidence in the lieutenant governor," she said on Thursday at a news conference announcing a state budget agreement.

Benjamin told The Daily News and Politico on Thursday he did not tell Hochul about the investigation. It was previously reported Benjamin had been issued a subpoena has part of the investigation related to fundraising practices.

Benjamin on Thursday said he has cooperated with the investigation.

A former state senator from Manhattan, Benjamin was selected by Hochul last year to become the lieutenant governor after she was elevated to the governor's office.
