U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney will speak at Syracuse University in the beginning of October, SU announced Thursday.

The Wyoming congresswoman will headline an event the university calls “Courage in Defense of Democracy" on Oct. 3 at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, Rep. Liz Cheney has been in the national spotlight since January 2021 when she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Since then, she has served as vice chair for the House select committee investigating the events of that day.

Cheney once served as chair of the House Republican Conference, the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. She was replaced in that role by New York’s Rep. Elise Stefanik shortly after Trump left office.

Serving in Congress since 2017, Cheney lost a GOP primary for her House seat in August. She will continue leading the Jan. 6 investigation efforts until her term expires at the end of the year.

Her event at SU is a ticketed one for the university community. To register for this event, fill out this event form.
