CONCORD, N.C. -- The national spotlight is on North Carolina after an appearance on the Ellen show!

Emily Francis is from Guatemala and teaches English at Irvin Elementary in Concord.

She told Ellen DeGeneres she learned to speak English by watching her show, and producers reached out to Francis after seeing an article about her in People magazine.

While on the show, Ellen surprised Francis with cheering students via satellite and a $100,000 donation by Chobani.

The company's CEO told Francis that he is also an immigrant, and wanted to donate to Irvin's backpack program, which gives students in need food to eat over the weekends while away from school.

Francis says the donation will also pay for computers and other resources at Irvin.
