WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. -- More than 600 paddleboarders from around the world are taking over Wrightsville Beacht this weekend.

  • The Eighth Annual Carolina Cup paddleboarding competition is happening in Wrightsville Beach this weekend.

They’re gearing up for the annual Carolina Cup paddleboarding competition. The race director says the event is in its eighth year and brings in folks from as far away as Spain.

The competition gives amateurs the chance to interact and learn from some of the most well-known professionals in the sport.

Officials say the event brings in $1 million worth of economic impact.

The first race begins at 9:30 Saturday morning at Harbor Island in Wrightsville Beach.
