DURHAM, N.C. -- In light of recent school shootings and intruders, one school in Durham is stepping-up its security.

  • Rhinoware attaches to classroom doors.
  • Cost is $200 per door.
  • Company is based in Raleigh.

For about $200 per door, Gorman Christian Academy installed a product to help protect their classrooms.

RhinoWare is made by a Raleigh-based company. The physical door barricade is easy enough for even young students to use.

Principal Terry Chambers says they've been practicing using the device during lockdown drills.

"I think this will be an encouragement to other businesses, schools, and public schools," Chambers said. "I know the cost will be much greater than our costs, but it does give you peace of mind knowing that your children are safe and that you're taking good care of them."

Chambers says the school raised the money for RhinoWare through private donations. It costs around $6,000 to arm 30 classrooms with the devices.
