CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Newly-released body camera video shows the tense moments surrounding an officer-involved shooting involving CMPD from December.

This comes after a judge granted Action NC’s request to release the video.

Watch an edited portion of the video below:

Bobby Morgan, 29, called 911 on December 1, 2018, saying he had a gun and was upset with neighbors.

When officers got to the scene on Winfield Drive, they heard shots being fired inside the home where Morgan had barricaded himself inside. Officers report they also saw Morgan armed at the window, displaying his weapon.

Morgan came outside and that's when officers ordered Morgan to drop the weapon, but he refused. That's when police opened fire.

In the video a woman can be heard screaming, "My son doesn't have a gun, he has mental [health] issues."

CMPD says the pistol Morgan held looked real, but it only fired blanks.

The department also says Morgan may have suffered from mental illness.

Police say the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office is currently reviewing the matter. The DA's Office report of the officers’ findings will be released after the criminal charges against Morgan have been adjudicated.
