CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than a million people in North Carolina are uninsured, according to U.S. Census data.

• In two weeks, hundreds in health care will spend 24 hours brainstorming solutions for that and other problems facing patients and providers, during HackathonCLT.

In less than two weeks, hundreds with little to no experience in health care will spend 24 hours brainstorming solutions for that and other problems facing patients and providers, during HackathonCLT.

One of the issues the health care industry faces is a tech gap, where providers are collecting large amounts of data but not being able to do much with it.

“The data has mainly been to just document what happened at that visit. Not really to predict your health care needs or really provide a better, comprehensive understanding of what your trajectory is,” professor of Public Health Sciences at UNC Charlotte Michael Dulin said.
