CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If you're planning to vote in the Presidential primary March 3, it might be time to check to see if you have the right official identification cards.

That's because you'll soon need to hand over an official ID card before you get your ballot.

A court ruling this month is set to allow North Carolina’s voter ID law to go into effect in time for the 2020 Presidential election next year.

County board of elections across the Carolinas are hosting clinics to get registered voters ready.

You can use a valid drivers license or an approved student ID or employee ID.

This is for both in-person and absentee ballots.

“We want to make sure that it's exactly what the general assembly says and the courts say we can do. As the law stands right now, you will need one. We are going full speed ahead," says Michael Dickerson, the Mecklenburg County elections director. 

If you don't have an ID you can get a free one for registered voters at a county election board office. Some IDs must be approved by the North Carolina State Board of Eelections no later than November 1. 

Here are some acceptable voter IDs for 2020:

• Driver License or Non-Operator ID from North Carolina
• Driver License or Non-Operator ID from a Different U.S. State or Territory
• United States Passport
• Tribal Enrollment Card
• Approved Employee and Student ID
