Water Main Break Spills 'Millions of Gallons' of Water

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A major water main break is causing some issues including canceling classes for the rest of the day at a nearby university Wednesday afternoon.

York County officials say “millions and millions of gallons of water” is spilling out to streets from the Rock Hill water filter plant on Cherry Road. Neighbors are experiencing little to no water pressure and are asked to reduce water use as much as possible.

Winthrop University tweeted about canceling class for the remainder fo the day due to the issue.

Students who live on campus are strongly encouraged to leave campus. Staff should look to guidance from HR on taking leave on Oct. 10.

A boil water advisory is also in place for all water customers in the county including businesses.

Business owners to include restaurants, grocery stores, schools, childcare facilities, convenience stores, ice plants, nursing homes, and community residential care facilities. Any business that manufactures ingestible material needs to follow the posted recommendations. pic.twitter.com/fSPwkSXGBO

Additionally, classes have been cancelle Thursday for schools in Rock Hill.
