CONCORD, N.C. — Police have charged five teens accused of causing "extensive damage" to the inside of the new West Cabarrus High School, which is currently under construction.

Joseph Russell Fusco, 18, is charged with two counts of misdemeanor injury to real property and three counts of misdemeanor breaking and entering. Four other juveniles, age 17, are also facing charges similar to Fusco, police say.

All of the suspects are students at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg.

Concord Police Department says it responded to the site at 4100 Weddington Road on February 17 and 20 after crews reported damages to the interior of the building being constructed.

Workers say they found busted windows, damaged plumbing, holes in walls, and several areas covered in spilled and thrown paint. Damage was also reported on construction equipment located inside the building.

Officials say the total damage is estimated to be more than $100,000 at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information to please call 704-920-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 704-93-CRIME.

West Cabarrus High School is scheduled to open in August, officials say, and will be the county's newest high school.
