WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Scottish Society of Wilmington is looking for a place to put an interactive memorial for its Scottish ancestors and to let future generations know about their impact on North Carolina’s history.

The group, which has established a fund to honor the 20,000 Scots who first came to the state, would prefer the memorial be placed on Wilmington’s riverfront.

"The Scots need to be recognized for what they did. The contribution to the state and also to our country, and here we have this area just so close to Wilmington," Scottish Immigration Memorial Foundation President Bob McLeod said.

The Scottish Society of Wilmington is partnering with Moores Creek National Battlefield in Currie to host their Second Annual Scottish Heritage Day on March 28.
