Airport staff will be working extra hard to keep all surfaces clean.

They are also making a larger effort to wipe down all “touchpoints”, places where people could easily pick up viruses, like handrails on escalators, door handles, baggage claim areas, and seats in the gate areas.

The airport authority put these measures in place weeks ago, after the first reports of coronavirus spreading to the U.S.

PTI started stocking extra sanitizing tools and started scheduling extra staff to help clean.

At the same time, the airport authority is asking its passengers to also take extra precautions.

That means:

  • Avoid close contact with people showing symptoms
  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay home when you’re sick
  • Cover you sneeze or cough
  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

The airport staff is also coordinating efforts with other agencies, like the Guilford County Health Department and Cone Health, in order to track the virus and monitor public health efforts.

At this point, none of the cases in North Carolina have been in the Triad.
