HENDERSON, N.C. -- A remarkable find has Vance County looking at its past.

Crews were surprised when they found a time capsule buried beneath a confederate statue in front of the old county courthouse. The statue was removed earlier this month.

The artifacts date back to 1910, when the statue was installed. They include books, pictures, and a rare coin. There are also national newspapers, detailing the death of King Edward VII in Great Britain.

The monument is at undisclosed location. A final place for the relics hasn't been determined yet.

"We have an historical society here...We have the library. I don't know if we've decided a final place," says County Manager Jordan McMillen.

The county installed another capsule in October 2000 at the current courthouse. It can't be opened for at least another 50 years.
