CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Scott Swimmer started the nonprofit “Drum for Cures” in Charlotte around 15 years ago.

Swimmer started the organization because of his son's fight with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.

Once a year people gather outside in an event called “DrumStrong,” where they drum for a good cause. The money goes to fight cancer.

The idea has spread throughout the year and into 25 countries.

“We've taken DrumStrong into hospitals, camps, clinics...it levels the playing field. No longer doctor-patient. No longer worried parent-patient,” Swimmer says.

Because of COVID-19, DrumStrong was postponed in May, but it's expected to be back for a virtual event in October.
