CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte food bank has partnered with a college program to help provide food to families in need.

The program also focuses on religious dietary restrictions for those in the Hindu and Muslim communities.

With the help of Loaves And Fishes, Central Piedmont Community College students interning with Bridge Builders came together Friday to give out food.

While community partners like Loaves and Fishes have gone above and beyond to help throughout the pandemic, organizers say sometimes a few religious needs, like vegetarian or meat requirements, aren’t always met.

“We’re trying to obviously build a community here in Charlotte and get to know people of other religions and places,” says organizer Courtney Wacker. “And if we’re not doing that, then we’re kind of stuck in our own little bubble.”

The group has another food drive planned for the Hindu and Muslim communities on November 13 at the Harris Campus of CPCC.
