CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control kicked off the season of giving by making care packages for people and their pets living without a home.

What You Need To Know

  • Winter care packages for people without a home and their pets

  • Care packages have snacks and blankets for people and items like toys and a warming dog bed for pets

  • Items donated through an Amazon wish list

The care packages were put together using donated items from the Animal Care & Control Amazon wishlist for Human Animal Support Services.

The Human Animal Support Services team works closely with community members to help people without a home keep their pets and get them the care they need.

“Sometimes they will take care of that pet better than they will take care of themselves. So, if we can make that a little easier, so they can take care of themselves than, that's what we’re trying to do,” said Chloe Hankinson, an animal control officer lead.

The care packages were filled with blankets, hand warmers, and some small snacks. There were also leashes and toys for pets.

The packages will be handed out mid December, but there are still items Human Animal Support Services needs to completely fill their 30-bag goal and supply other projects throughout the year.
