MCLEANSVILLE, N.C. — The holidays are over, and now many North Carolinians are thinking about taking down their Christmas trees before they dry out.

Farms like Providence Farm are collecting Christmas trees to feed and entertain their goats, sheep, pigs, and chickens.

According to the owner, Joy Combs, they’ve been doing this for the last four years, and the animals are always excited when the trees arrive. She says they are also a healthy treat.

“The pine needles themselves have a variety of beneficial vitamins in them, Vitamin C being one of them, and if you look around this time of year everything is just so brown because it's winter time," Combs explains.

Providence Farm is still collecting Christmas trees.

Anyone wishing to donate can drop their tree off at the south driveway near the barnyard located at 2569 Huffine Mill Road in McLeansville, N.C. Please make sure all ornaments are removed, and Combs says they are not accepting any trees that had tinsel.
