RALEIGH, N.C. β€” North Carolina Theatre is welcoming back cast members and an audience for the first time since the pandemic shut down its operations.

What You Need To Know

"Songs for a New World" premiers July 27 and runs through August 1

Tickets are $35 a person to see the show live, or you can buy an on-demand ticket for $25 to watch the performance from home

The show includes seven New York-based artists who have not been on stage since Broadway closed down in March 2020

The show is being hosted at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium inside the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

One of the actresses in the play, Krystina Alabado, was cast as Gretchen Wieners in Broadway's "Mean Girls." Alabado's last time performing the show was in March 2020. It was later shut down in January 2021 because of the pandemic.

β€œIt's been the weirdest thing to have an entire year and a half off from being on stage," Alabado said. "I don't think I've taken that much time off since like junior high.”

Alabado is typically based in New York City and has been a performer for most of her life. In her off time she took more gigs in TV, movies and commercials.

"My heart is so full of happiness and joy just for being here, and I'm just so happy to get back to work honestly," Alabado said.

Alabado is among seven actors and actresses who all haven't been seen on stage since Broadway shut down in March 2020.

"Songs for a New World" is about new beginnings and starting over. Alabado says its meaning matches perfectly with her return to the stage.

β€œI think that this can be a really amazing way for people to sort of take a breath and start over a little bit," Alabado said.

The live show premiers, Tuesday, July 27 and runs through Sunday, August 1.

Tickets are $35 per person. The theater is also offering a digital version of the show, starting July 30, so audiences can watch it from home.
