RALEIGH, N.C. — Hockey fans in North Carolina undoubtly know all about the Carolina Hurricanes. But did you know there is a Hurricanes Sled Hockey team? Formed in 2018 by the Jacoby family, the nonprofit allows people who are not able to play traditional hockey an outlet to compete.

Kayden Beasley is just one of the several players on the team. The teen, who turns 15 this month, is a congenital bilateral above the knee amputee, but it doesn’t stop him from being a force on the ice.

What You Need To Know

The team is made up of junior and adult players

Tournaments take place all over the country

People of all abilities and ages are welcome to play

“It’s just a really fun group to be in, and I really didn’t try sports, but this was the first thing that I did," Beasley said. He recently attended the invitation-only USA Hockey Development camp with an eye now on the Paralmpics.

The team practices each Saturday in Raleigh and travels all over the country for tournaments. The pandemic has deeply affected the team's ability to fundraise. If you would like to contribute to help the team continue to compete in tournaments, please click here
