MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — To help better ensure public safety at its Riverbend Access Area, Duke Energy says it will begin “actively managing” parking during weekends and holidays, beginning May 27.

The Riverbend access is Duke’s largest owned and operated site on Mountain Island Lake, featuring four boat ramps and more than 100 parking spaces.

The company says, however, overcrowding and congestion has “created challenges for emergency access to the site, surrounding residential property and Mountain Island Lake.” To help curb these issues, Duke says active parking management will be implemented during peak times.

Measures will include restricted vehicle and pedestrian traffic once the access area parking lot is full, which will remain in effect until spaces become available.

Visitors will be able to access up-to-date information on Riverbend and other access areas by clicking here, viewing the Duke Energy Lake View app or calling 1-800-443-5193.

Duke Energy says recreational enhancements will also begin in 2024 for the Riverbend Access Area, and will include a swim beach, picnic areas, a fishing pier and additional parking.
