RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh is growing fast, and a local writer has crafted a list with the goal of guiding newcomers on all the best things to do around the area.

What You Need To Know

Raleigh is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, with more and more newcomers

A Raleigh woman wrote a book called "100 Things to Do in Raleigh Before You Die” to showcase all the activities and places the city has to offer

The book has five sections: food & drink, sports & recreation, music & entertainment, culture & history and shopping & fashion

Raleigh is among the top relocation destinations in the country. On average, 64 people move here every day. The most recent census puts Raleigh in second for fastest growing cities in the United States. That includes the 23% growth over the last decade.

Alli Hurley wrote a book, perfect for new people in town called, “100 Things to Do in Raleigh Before You Die.” She says her inspiration is “Raleigh is just so wonderful.”

When writing the book, she did not want it to be a bucket list of things to do in Raleigh, but she says “really it’s just a starting place.”

Each entry into the book contains a quick essay highlighting things to know and things she found important. There are a lot of family and pet friendly places to visit on the list, including the Mountain-to-Sea trail.

One of the Hurely family’s favorite outdoor places is Falls Lake, which is included in the Mountain-to-Sea trail.

“Falls Lake in general is that there’s so many good little hidden gems you can find,” Hurley said.

“A lot of the things I wanted to include are just venues and places and experiences that are community oriented and make people feel welcome and make people feel at home,” Hurley said. This feeling is meant for people living in Raleigh and those just visiting. Each of these locations has a unique history to the area, focusing on community-oriented missions.

“So I think that’s just my general theme is, I really like people that are incorporating their neighbors into what they’re doing,” said Hurley.

This book includes five sections: food & drink, sports & recreation, music & entertainment, culture & history and shopping & fashion. And like Raleigh, each of these topics has a wide range of things to do.

This book can be purchased at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and other stores.
