RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes will open their season on the road at Detroit Thursday night. So, with this being the final week of training camp, Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour decided to ratchet up the competition with the team's first scrimmage Monday morning. Brind'Amour refrained from coaching either the red or white team in Monday's practice. Instead, he was spotted at an elevated position within the practice rink evaluating both sides.

His players are pleased with the pace of Monday's scrimmage and Brind'Amour noted that this roster will have some momentum heading into this 2021 season, thanks to their familiarity with each other. But as far as knocking out all of the kinks before the puck drops Thursday night, that's not feasible.

Brind'Amour added that kinks will be a factor all throughout the season but he believes they were able to knock off some of the rust when it comes to the players competitive juices.

Brind'Amour says, "It wasn't like we had five guys all over the place. What I saw was a group that had been together and kind of knows what we're doing. So, this is what you would expect. The puck drop for game one is going to be a different animal because playing in a real game is a different animal but hopefully, this knocks off a little of the rust.".
