DURHAM, N.C. — Just over a week ago, North Carolina Central University announced that they would be cutting the baseball program.

Like many schools across the country, budget cuts and a lack of revenue resources during the COVID-19 pandemic forced the hand of NCCU.

"Really the focus right now is on our players and making this the best season possible," NCCU Head Coach Jim Koerner says.

Entering his 10th season at the helm, Koerner also stressed the the team owes it to themselves and to those that came before them to put their best foot forward this season.

NCCU opened their season Friday, winning the first of a three-game series against Army, 9-4.
