  • It includes artifacts that will highlight advancements made over 100 years and the COVID pandemic

  • It's scheduled to open in 2121

As part of a way to celebrate 100 years of research and medical advancements, teams with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center placed more than a dozen items inside two time capsules.

They’re set to open in 2121.

As the public health emergency for the coronavirus has come to an end, this commemorative piece of history also preserves memories and experiences from the pandemic.

“You know, we all went through a tough two or three years in the COVID pandemic, but also I feel that science is really what helped us get out of this pandemic. It was the science around developing a vaccine,” said Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Pediatric Department Chair Tina Cheng.

The time capsules will be buried in the hospital’s outdoor courtyard.

This isn’t the first time the hospital has buried a time capsule.

The first was in 1925.
