OHIO — Former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken said she's running for U.S. Senate, she announced in a video posted to her website Thursday. 

"I’m running for the United States Senate to stand up for you, just like when I stood next to President Trump and supported his American First agenda that created jobs and brought manufacturing back to our shores," Timken said. 

Timken stepped down her from role as chairman Feb. 5, saying she was grateful to have worked with "many dedicated, rock-ribbed conservatives to strengthen our state and stand with President Trump to make our nation great." 

Timken is now the second Ohio Republican to publicly announce a run for Sen. Rob Portman's seat in 2022.

Josh Mandel, the former state treasurer and former Marine, announced Feb. 10 he was making a third run for Senate. 

“I’m going to Washington to fight for President Trump’s America First Agenda and to pulverize the Uniparty – that cabal of Democrats and Republicans who sound the same, stand for nothing and are more interested in cocktail party invites than defending the Constitution," Mandel said. 

Both Timken and Mandel plan to push the former president's agenda on immigration, abortion and manufacturing. 

"I would advance the Trump agenda without fear or hesitation, fighting for American manufacturing and Ohio workers defending the unborn, and our second amendment — standing up for law enforcement and stronger borders," Timken said. 

On the Democratic side, a few people have expressed interest. Former Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton announced in a statement Feb. 4 that she was stepping down from her position at the Columbus Foundation to consider running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Congressman Tim Ryan (D, OH-13), said he is also considering a run for Portman's seat. 

“The U.S. Senate needs another working class voice, and I’m very serious about the opportunity to continue representing the people of Ohio,” Ryan said.
