COLUMBUS, Ohio — Residents who want a COVID-19 vaccine can get one from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Columbus Public Health on 240 Parsons Ave without an appointment.

Individuals will be offered either the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday) or the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine (Monday, Wednesday and Friday.)

Officials are also offering drive-thru vaccinations with the Pfizer vaccine at the Celeste Center on 717 E. 17th Ave this week, Monday through Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m.

Ohio gave providers the greenlight to resume administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine Friday after federal officials put a temporary pause on distribution on April 13, at first reporting six women suffered blood clots and one woman died. On Friday, officials said the numbers had risen to 15 clots and three deaths.

In a 10 to 4 vote with one abstention, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, an independent panel, recommended use of the vaccine after meeting Friday to review rare blood clotting in vaccine recipients.

More than 382,000 Franklin County residents are fully vaccinated, which is almost 30% of the county's population, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Statewide, more than 3.5 million Ohioans are vaccinated, which is 30% of the state's population.
