COLUMBUS, Ohio — While three teams punched their tickets to participate in the NCAA Tournament, multiple other Ohio collegiate Division I teams are participating in basketball postseason tournaments.

National Invitational Tournament

Four teams from Ohio will participate after receiving bids to play in the National Invitational Tournament.

The bids resulted in two games featuring Ohio teams being paired against each other.

University of Dayton at University of Toledo

Dayton travels to Savage Arena in Toledo to play the Rockets in the first round of the NIT on March 16 at 7 p.m.

The Flyers were a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament after finishing in third place in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They also lost in the A10 Tournament semifinals to eventual tournament champion University of Richmond, 68-64.

Dayton also was listed as the first alternate for March Madness should a team need to drop out of the tournament due to COVID-19 protocols.

Toledo clinched a spot in the NIT by winning the Mid-American Conference regular season.

The Rockets lost in the MAC Tournament semifinals to the eventual MAC Tournament champions, University of Akron, 70-62.

It is Dayton’s 27th appearance in the NIT, having last won the tournament in 2010. Toledo is making its 11th appearance in the NIT, with its best NIT finishing being as runner-up in 1943, and is hosting an NIT game for the first time since 2001.

The winner of Dayton and Toledo plays the winner of Vanderbilt and Belmont.

Cleveland State University at Xavier University

Cleveland State travels to Cincinnati to play the Musketeers at the Cintas Center on March 15 at 9 p.m.

The Vikings clinched an automatic bid to the NIT by winning the Horizon League regular season title. They lost in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals, 82-67, to the eventual tournament champion, Wright State.

Xavier finished in eighth place in the Big East Conference, and was considered a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament for much of the championship week until multiple lower-seeded teams won their respective tournaments.

It's Cleveland State’s fifth appearance in the NIT. It is Xavier’s ninth NIT appearance, with the Musketeers having won the tournament in 1958.

The winner plays the winner of Iona and Florida in the second round.

College Basketball Invitational

Ohio University vs Rice University

Ohio plays Rice at the neutral site of the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Ohio finished third in the Mid-American Conference regular season standings and lost in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament to tournament runner-up, Kent State, 67-61.

Rice finished fifth in the Conference USA West Division. The Owls lost in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament to North Texas, the C-USA West Division regular season champion.

It is the Bobcats’ third CBI appearance and first since 2016. It is Rice’s second CBI appearance and first since 2017.

College Basketball Classic

Youngstown State University

Youngstown State University accepted a bid to play in the College Basketball Classic, formerly known as the College Insider Tournament.

The Penguins’ opponent and location of the game currently is unknown as the tournament field continues to be filled by the tournament committee.

Youngstown State finished seventh in the Horizon League and lost in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament, 77-73, to Robert Morris.
