COLUMBUS, Ohio — As the State Board of Education searches for Ohio’s next superintendent of public instruction, its members will meet in ten days to consider the selection of candidates for the second round of interviews from a pool of seven remaining contenders for the job.

What You Need To Know

  • The Ohio Board of Education is considering seven remaining applications for the education superintendent job

  • Board members will meet in two weeks to consider the next steps in the superintendent search as it narrows the field

  • Officials will hold second round interviews with the candidates who advance beyond the current pool of seven

The Ohio Board of Education narrowed the candidate list from a pool of 28 applicants, and conducted interviews at an April 11-12 meeting of the seven who are still in the search.

In a notice Friday afternoon, the Board said it will meet on April 28 in executive session to consider the selection of individuals for a second round of interviews.

The board is interviewing for a permanent replacement after former Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria stepped down in the fall. The next superintendent will take over duties from Stephanie Siddens, interim education superintendent, who did not apply for the role.

The State Board of Education released the names of the seven candidates in a news release at the beginning of the month.

The seven remaining candidates include a former vice president of the board, four school district superintendents, a former acting assistant secretary for the Department of Education during the DeVos administration and a consultant for an association promoting Judeo-Christian values in education. You can read more about their backgrounds here.
