CLEVELAND — President Joe Biden has promised the new infrastructure bill will help repair bridges and roads across the Buckeye State, as well as creating thousands of good-paying jobs.

United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Cuyahoga Community College on May 5 to discuss the new infrastructure bill. 

“We can’t do it without you,” he said. “The sheer level of investment that we’re putting into communities in every part of this country cannot be delivered if we are leaving any talent on the table and there have been times when America failed to enlist all of the talent in this country. Leaving people out of opportunities and shorting America’s opportunity itself,” the secretary told the crowd of about 100 people.

He toured the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Community Training and Development Job Hub with Rep. Shontel Brown, D, OH-11.

Buttigieg answered questions related to the Biden administration’s emphasis on getting more electric cars on the road to help the environment. 

While electric cars are usually more expensive on the market than traditional ones, he said the administration is pushing for tax credits to make electric cars and trucks cheaper. 

“For example, a pickup truck, all electric that starts at $40,000, could be brought into the high 20s with these tax credits. We’re continuing to work with congress on that,” Buttigieg said. “The house passed some really good legislation on this. We’re continuing to have dialogue on the Senate side. We are increasingly approaching the point where it will be cheaper on its own, but we’re not there yet and we got to make sure that we have right policies, also to encourage those electric vehicles to be made in America.”

Biden visited Cuyahoga Community College in May 2021, months before the infrastructure bill.
