HONOLULU — Honolulu Pride Month, which celebrates the LGBTQ community, starts in October. On Monday, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi will raise the pride flag outside the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building in honor of the celebratory month.

Members of the Honolulu City Council and representatives from the LGBTQ community will join the mayor when he raises the pride flag at 11 a.m. 

The Honolulu Hale will also be lit in rainbow colors from sundown on Sunday, Oct. 2, through sunrise on Saturday, Oct. 8. 

Blangiardi, along with other city employees, will participate in the Honolulu Pride Parade and Festival on Oct. 15. The theme for this year’s parade is “Rooted in Pride,” and this will be the first in-person festival since 2019. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and travels from Magic Island to Kapiolani Park.

“As a city, we are honored to celebrate Honolulu Pride Month,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Oahu is a special place, rooted in Pride, and made extraordinary through its diversity. Our commitment to hope, equality and unity stretches far beyond October, but I hope you’ll join us as we celebrate Honolulu Pride Month throughout the City and county of Honolulu.”

National Pride Month is in June, but Oahu celebrates Pride Month in October to coincide with LGBT History Month, National Coming Out Day and Spirit Day, according to the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation.
