LIBERTY, N.Y. -- A charitable group from Sullivan County is preparing to help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.

Volunteers from the Rotary Club's Liberty chapter will be leaving for the island Friday morning. Gary and Judy Siegel are part of that group leaving. They said Rotary members from Liberty and a district in Massachusetts, as well as other organizations, will be going there to participate in vaccination clinics, help with and provide funding for the construction of homes, purchase beds and mattresses for families, and buy toys for kids.

The Liberty chapter has raised almost $10,000 so far, with the goal of raising a total of $25,000. The Liberty Rotary Club is also getting financial help from Rotary volunteers from Massachusetts. That district chapter hopes to raise a total of $50,000.
