Ahead of Election Day, there is a push at SUNY New Paltz to make sure students cast their ballots.

The New York Public Interest Research Group hosted a rally on campus yesterday, offering resources for potential young voters.

The group cited a study when they said only 14 percent of the school's students voted in the 2014 midterms.

NYPIRG offered poll locators and sample ballots to help students know what to expect, as well as absentee ballots.

One organizer said they registered more than 1,200 voters on the SUNY New Paltz campus this year.

"Only the people that live here on campus in the dorms can vote in the student union building, but I'd expect a thousand or more in the midterms. It seems like people are really engaged and getting out and voting this year," said Eric Wood, NYPIRG project coordinator.

Tuesday, November 6 is Election Day, with polls across the state opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m.
