BRENTWOOD, Calif. — To sit at Richard Riordan’s table is to turn back a few pages to a time before books and bipartisanship went out of fashion.

A group of notable Angelenos has been gathering in the former Los Angeles mayor's Brentwood home once a month since 1994 to discuss books.

“It’s a lot of fun. Everybody loves it,” Riordan said.

The book club is invitation only, but anyone can pick up a book from a list of nearly 300 titles they’ve read over the last 25 years.
