LOS ANGELES — Executive director Carol Rosenstein co-founded Music Mends Minds in 2014 after seeing the positive effects of music on her husband, who had Parkinson’s disease.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit expanded the number of musical support groups in response to increasing demand.

Currently, there are nine cities in Southern California working toward becoming dementia friendly — Azusa, Los Angeles, Montrose, Monrovia, Redondo Beach, Riverside, San Marino, Sierra Madre and West Hollywood — with the goal of making communities informed, safe, respectful and supportive of people living with dementia and their families.
