LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Two workers were critically injured Thursday in an apparent explosion involving electrical equipment in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the 300 block of South Flower Street about 9:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The men, described as private contractors, were taken to a hospital for treatment, the LAFD reported.

Witnesses said there was an "explosion" involving electrical equipment at or near a loading dock at the location, the LAFD reported.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health was notified.
