EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined Chris Leary on Spectrum News to discuss the release of the Tyre Nichols beating video.

Bass explained her initial reaction to seeing the footage.

"Disgust, grief, just thinking about the family and thinking that for the rest of their lives, they will have the image of their loved one being beat to death and being viewed all around, not just the United States but all around the world," said Bass. "I just don’t understand how human beings can be so callous."

Bass was asked about keeping Angelenos safe amid rising violence.

"I can absolutely continue to push that the Los Angeles Police Department raise its standards," she said. "And to me, it’s about accountability and transparency."
