BELLFLOWER, Calif. — It was hard to believe that Friday night already marked the halfway point in this pandemic-shortened season in Bellflower as Servite traveled to St. John Bosco in a Trinity league match-up of two storied programs.

In a 2019 match-up between the teams, Bosco narrowly escaped with a 27-26 win in what now seems like a distant memory.

Both teams were slow out of the gate as Servite struggled to pass, and there was no room to run for the Braves. It was only 7-3 at halftime with Servite on top.

In the second half, the tide turned.

Both offenses came to life, with the Braves' striking first — Kaitin Hauser finding Matayo Uiagalelei, whose two touchdowns contribution to the Bosco offense was reminiscent of his older brother DJ who's now a quarterback at Clemson.

The Braves led 10-7.

While it looked like Bosco was going to pull away after a 76-yard, Jabari Bates' run put Bosco up 24-14. Servite never went away.

Friars quarterback Noah Fifita (11-yard run) and wide receiver Tetaroia McMillan (three-yard reception) combined for the next two Friar touchdowns, and Servite was knocking on the door down just 24-21.

In the end, Bosco would not be denied at home in front of a masked but loud crowd at Panish Family Stadium.

A 15-yard Michael Hayes run sealed the deal as Bosco went on to win 38-28 and improve to 3-0, as Servite fell to 2-1.

St. John Bosco will take on Serra on April 3, as Servite goes from facing the No. 2 team in the state to another huge challenge in the No. 1 team in California, Mater Dei.
